National People’s Power (NPP) Meets Election Commission

This morning, the National People’s Power General Secretary, Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, along with National Executive Committee Members Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala, met with the Election Commission to lodge a formal complaint regarding the violation of local government election laws by the Southern Province Governor, Mr. Luxman Yapa Abeywardhane.

The complaint focused on the appointment of former Chairmen of Pradeshiya Sabhas and members as the Governor’s coordinators to supervise the activities performed by local authorities in their respective areas. The NPP representatives emphasized that this constitutes a gross violation of public property and election laws. They requested the commission to conduct a formal investigation and to intervene to stop such illegal actions.
